NASA: Release All 3I/ATLAS Data — Raw and Processed — in the Spirit of Open Science
The Issue
To the leadership of NASA,
3I/ATLAS — the third known interstellar object to enter our Solar System — represents a rare and invaluable scientific opportunity.
Because NASA is publicly funded, we, the undersigned, respectfully request the prompt public release of all raw and processed data obtained during its observation campaigns.
We ask that the release include:
1. All raw instrument data (FITS, IMG, or equivalent formats) from HiRISE, MRO, and any other instruments that observed 3I/ATLAS.
2. Processed and calibrated imagery, spectra, and measurement datasets derived from those raw files.
3. Associated instrument logs, calibration data, pointing geometry, and full metadata.
4. Documentation and data-processing information necessary for independent verification and replication.
Why this request is legitimate and urgent
* On October 31, 2025, Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna formally sent a letter to NASA Acting Administrator Sean Duffy, requesting the release of specific observational data related to 3I/ATLAS, including HiRISE imagery, Mars mission data, Parker Solar Probe observations, and Juno measurements.
* NASA’s Open Science and Open Data policies affirm that all mission data funded by taxpayers must be made freely accessible through the Planetary Data System (PDS).
* Professor Avi Loeb of Harvard University and The Galileo Project have publicly called for full transparency, urging NASA to release the complete 3I/ATLAS dataset for independent scientific analysis.
* NASA’s official Open Data Portal (data.nasa.gov) states that its mission data must remain open, discoverable, and reproducible for the benefit of global science.
These are verifiable facts that align with NASA’s long-standing commitment to open science and public accountability.
Why it matters
Interstellar objects like 3I/ATLAS are exceedingly rare.
They hold clues about the formation, chemistry, and evolution of planetary systems beyond our own.
Timely data sharing allows scientists and citizen researchers worldwide to conduct independent analyses and contribute to new discoveries.
Transparency reinforces public trust in NASA — ensuring that knowledge gained through publicly funded missions belongs to all humanity.
🛰️ What we’re asking NASA to do
* Release all raw and processed data to a publicly accessible NASA archive.
* Publish metadata, calibration files, and observation logs.
* Provide a timeline for any unreleased materials.
* Maintain transparency through public updates on data availability.

Our shared goal
NASA has always stood as a symbol of curiosity, integrity, and open discovery.
By releasing the full 3I/ATLAS dataset — raw, calibrated, and documented — NASA can reaffirm its leadership in global open science and inspire a new generation to look to the stars with shared wonder.
Let 3I/ATLAS be remembered not only for what it revealed about the universe, but for how openly humanity pursued that discovery.
In the vast cosmic arena, truth is not found through silence,
but through the courage to let evidence speak for itself.
Every photon, every data point, is a messenger from the unknown —
carrying a story older than our civilization,
waiting to be heard by anyone willing to listen.
By opening the vault of 3I/ATLAS to the public,
NASA would not only honor the spirit of science,
but also the essence of what makes us human —
our shared curiosity, our humility before the cosmos,
and our readiness to learn, even when the answers may surprise us.
