Above is a view of the bar area of the Lighthouse Inn. The most recent letter I sent is giving Procaccianti Developers an option to clean up their act and create a viable mixed-use development for Galilee or to get out of Galilee and allow the State and/or Town Take over the leased land. The letter was sent to Procaccianti Developers, our Town Council, Town Manager, Building Inspector, Zoning and Planning, Narragansett leaders, the Governor, and other elected officials. Please read the outstanding letter in support of a mixed-use development for Galilee in the link below as noted in the Brown Daily Herald. If you can reach out to one family or friend to sign this petition, it would be greatly appreciated. I hope we can reach 5000 signatures. We now have over 4200 signatures. There is strength in numbers. United we Stand, divided we Fall.
Dear Mr. James Procaccianti and Mr. Joseph Paolino,
The Town of Narragansett sent you a notice with respect to when you can inform the Town of Narragansett when the abandoned Lighthouse Inn will be demolished. The Town has given you 30 days to reply back to them. There are several videos on YouTube that shows the building is filled with mold and it has been a death chamber for seagulls who enter the building. This is deeply upsetting to anyone who values wildlife and to any person who loved the former Lighthouse Inn. When you intentionally abandoned the Lighthouse Inn, you did violate the terms of your original lease. I therefore question, why? Why did your company that has 10 Billion in real estate investment create the worse environment hazards on State leased land in the history of the United States?
Now, in 2023, your company has a decision to make. Will you demolish the Lighthouse Inn, and will you leave the leased land and turn over the street level parking lots over to the State or the Town of Narragansett, or will you continue to violate the Town of Narragansett's ordinances? With the money both of you have, you can easily build a parking garage that will take up a small footprint of the overall land, and you can degut the Lighthouse Inn and create a showcase that can consists of a Boutique Hotel, a Maritime Museum, a shopping plaza that can include a general store for the fishermen and the locals, and dorm style temporary housing for the fishermen and college students. A Maritime Playground for children would also be wonderful for families where the swings can and playground can be modeled after fishing vessels and aquatic animals and fish such as sea turtles, tuna, and whales.
As you may already know, URI Professor Will Green had two of his college classes generate viable mixed-use developments for Galilee. I can gladly send you links to the mixed-use development plans for your review. You can also contact Professor Green directly. Professor Green is being forwarded this email.
After our Town Manager, James Tierney toured the Lighthouse Inn, he noted he feels the building has to be demolished. I am not a structural engineer, but with the wealth you have and the architectural team you have, you may be able to degut the entire building, so it can be rebuilt and redesigned from the inside out.
I would love to sit down with you, our Town Manager, Professor Will Green, Landscape Architect, Charles Carberry, our Town Council President, our Town's Building Inspector, and any other Town Council Members, and our Town Solicitor to discuss your game plan for creating a viable mixed use development plan for Galilee. Street level parking is NOT an option for Galilee.
I feel the State and the Town should allow you to retain its lease if and only if Procaccianti Developers puts forth a viable development plan that is endorsed and supported by Professor Will Green's Class Studies for Galilee and that are supported by the Town of Narragansett, so it complies with the Galilee Master Development Plan.
As you will see from the below recent article published, what is happening on the leased land by the RIDEM in Galilee and the land leased out (month to month) to Procaccianti Developers is getting noticed. If Procaccianti Developers decides to continue to act out in violation of the Town's ordnances and if it fails to take down the building or fails to rebuild the building from the ground up without demolishing the building by rebuilding the building from the inside out, then sadly Procaccianti Developers will be notorious for being one of the wealthiest developers in the world who has intentionally caused great environmental harm, created a death chamber for wildlife, and a building that is also a health and safety hazard to anyone who is in the area. Here is the link to the most recent article covering the situation in Galilee, RI with respect to the leased land in the control of the RIDEM and that has been leased out to Procaccianti Developers.
At the Change.org site Support for a Viable mixed use Development Plan in Galilee we have over 4200 signatures. And those that signed contributed over $5000 dollars. Behind every signature there are family members and friends that support the petition. I would add, at the Our Town: Narragansett FB Page we have over 11000 members. Posts have also been presented on Nextdoor.org and Patch.com. Therefore, literally tens of thousands of people are aware of what is happening in Galilee. In addition, the Governor, and all the Senators and Representatives have been forwarded many emails on the harm that has been done to Galilee.
We, as a Town, are all hoping Procaccianti Developers does the right thing and creates a viable mixed-use development for Galilee. If you feel you cannot create a viable mixed-use development plan for Galilee, then please remove yourself from the area, so the RIDEM can turn over the entire area of leased land over to the State and/or the Town of Narragansett.
I am looking forward to a reply to this email.
Respectfully Submitted, Dr. Albert Alba
