The Issue

We, the undersigned, have many concerns about the proposed "Glamping" project on Silverado Trail, in which the developers and Autocamp plan to build 5 buildings and develop 13 acres of oak meadows into 100 glamping sites (yurts and Airstream trailers) which will primarily benefit tourists, not local Napans.  This Napa City Planning Commission just recommended this project to be approved for rezoning (from a 4-home residential plot to commercial/hotel zoning), and this project will come before the City Council for a final vote in the coming month(s).   We are encouraging all Napa Residents who oppose this project to sign below.

The many concerns include, but are not limited to:

  • Increased traffic congestion in an already dangerous stretch of roadway
  • Increased risk of traffic accidents as there is not a proposed "left" turn lane near two blind turns
  • Increase risk of harm to cyclists - as there is a proposed bike lane near the development but it does not extend to Lincoln or Trancas, and Napa City has no plans to add this for AT LEAST 5 years, leaving cyclists and Glamping visitors exposed on a dangerous roadway
  • Risk of wildfire fire from 100 outdoor fire/grill wood burning pits
  • Air pollution for all surrounding residents which will increase risk of cancer from carcinogens from 100 outdoor wood burning pits
  • Noise pollution - neighbors can currently hear turkeys gobble in this meadow.  What will happen when there are 100 groups of noisy toursists in this area?  Would you want this in your backyard?
  • Once this area is rezoned "commercial", what will happen when/if the Glamping establishment no longer exists? Will a hotel or other commercial establishment be built or will it be returned to residential zoning?
  • Destruction of 13 acres of natural habitat, which is vital riparian habitat for turkeys, deer, coyotes, frogs, insects, birds (including resident red-shouldered hawks)
  • Removal of 8 large oak trees
  • Increased stress on Napa resources - water, sewer, and electricity infrastructure
  • building of a hotel/commercial project in a residential area

We believe that immediate action must be taken to address these concerns to ensure the well-being of our residents, the protection of wildlife, and the preservation of our environment.

We ask for the City Council to deny this rezoning and deny the AutoCamp Glamping site the use permits to develop this property, or at minimum:

  • Implement safer traffic control systems
  • Introduce sound barriers and enforcing noise regulations.
  • Strengthen conservation efforts to protect wildlife and natural habitats.
  • Involve local residents in planning and decision-making

By signing this petition, we call for immediate and responsible action to address these concerns and to seek a fair compromise that protects our community, environment, and future.
