Nancy Upton won fair and square!

Augusta Christensen

Ithaca, NY, United States
Created September 15, 2011

The Issue

When American Apparel decided to (finally) begin making clothes for the average American woman's size and ran an offensive campaign to attract plus size models, Nancy Upton didn't take it lying down. She generated attention for American Apparel's mean-spirited tone by entering the contest with a hilarious (and gorgeous) photo series...and winning!

But while American Apparel may be courting a slightly thicker client base, their company seems to be thin-skinned when it comes to criticism. They have issued a wounded, snarky statement and refused to extend an olive branch to Nancy even after she won the contest. Tell Dov Charney to lighten up, and offer Nancy the prize she earned fair and square (or at the very least apologize)!
