Gaylen Christean Jr. was not just a beloved community member of Elko; he was a mentor, a coach, and a cherished friend to many. His contribution to youth sports, his dedication to fostering community spirit, and his unwavering support for every child who stepped onto the field have left an indelible mark on our town. It is only fitting that we honor his legacy in a permanent and meaningful way by naming the upper baseball field in Elko after him.

Gaylen Christean Jr. spent countless hours at the ball fields, dedicating his time to coaching and inspiring the young athletes of Elko. His volunteer work and leadership in local sports went beyond the role of a coach. He instilled values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship in every young mind he had the privilege to mentor. His passion for baseball and his commitment to the community of Elko have touched countless lives.

Naming the field in his honor would not only recognize his efforts but also serve as an inspiration to future generations. With his name on the field, he would continue to be a symbol of dedication, passion, and community spirit.

I urge the Elko City Council and the Parks and Recreation Department to consider this proposal for immediate action! Gaylen was a part of the Current EHS Baseball team as a pitching coach, and its important that it happens during the upcoming season!

The naming of public spaces after significant community members is a wonderful tradition that upholds the history and values of our town, and we are running out of historical spaces to honor those who have shaped ELKO. In fact, this is the LAST Historical Baseball field in Elko without a Formal name. It’s time we extend this honor to Gaylen. Let us celebrate his life, his accomplishments, and his unwavering spirit by immortalizing his name at one of the places he dedicated so much of his time and energy.
