Hello, there! As you may know, The Emperor's Bridge Campaign is the San Francisco-based nonprofit that works to honor the life and advance the legacy of Emperor Norton. We do this through a wide-ranging program of research, education and advocacy. The Campaign was created initially to carry forward the call of this petition to find a way to name the Emperor's bridge — the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge — for the Emperor. We are continuing to explore options for this! Not long after the Campaign launched in September 2013, our supporters began to tell us: Hey, we need a Campaign t-shirt! When is there going to be a t-shirt?!! Last November, a Facebook follower in Sacramento even checked in to say: "I'd be down 4 or 5." It's been a busy two years for the Campaign. But we *finally* have been able to come up for air for long enough to design what we think will be a *fabulous* inaugural t-shirt! We hope you agree. :: :: :: The design is based on a rarely seen 1939 illustration of Emperor Norton by Lois Hanscom (1915-95). Hanscom's whimsical drawing of the Emperor was one of many of her "cartoons" that appeared in a tourist guidebook, "Let's Have Fun in San Francisco: A Handbook to the City" — with contributions from William Saroyan, Beniamino Bufano, Antonio Sotomayor and Herb Caen —that was published that year. We've put our own twist on Hanscom's illustration. :: :: :: Our basic goal is to raise $1,000 via Kickstarter — enough to cover an initial print run of about 100 shirts, including those offered as rewards for those who pledge at certain levels. But our *real* goal is to raise enough to print a substantial stock of shirts that we can sell directly via our Web site and at our events — with sales proceeds supporting projects like our bridge-naming initiative. We'd like to see as many as possible of these shirts on the streets! More details are on the Kickstarter page.
