"Nugget, Duke’s beloved golden retriever, died Thursday morning from lymphoma, according to her owner, Keith Upchurch, Trinity ‘72. She was 11 years old." 

Unofficial university mascots, Nugget and Keith brought immeasurable joy to the Duke community over the last decade. Their presence on campus served as unofficial "therapy" for Duke's students, faculty, staff, and visitors alike—and their favorite spot to greet us was on the steps of the BC Plaza's elevated platform. We petition Duke to name this platform in honor of Nugget and Keith, and install a plaque to designate the same. We hope this can serve as a memorial to their impact and support for years to come, and honor Nugget's legacy as Duke's favorite dog.
