Name a Sports Centre/Stadium After Eliud Kipchoge, #TheGreatestMarathonRunner
The Issue
Eliud Kipchoge is recognized as one of the greatest athletes in history and the best marathon runner of all time.
In 2003, he won the junior event at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships and broke a world junior record over 5000 meters on the track to win his first solo world championship title. At the 2003 World Championships in Athletics, he set a championships record to win the senior 5000 m race at the age of 18. He won a bronze medal for Kenya at the 2004 Olympic Games and another bronze at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Kipchoge, a five-time finalist in the 5000-meter race at the World Championships, won silver medals at the 2007 World Championships, the 2008 Summer Olympics, and the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
In 2012, he moved to road running and completed his first half marathon in the second-fastest time ever—59:25. He set a course record to win the 2013 Hamburg Marathon in his first marathon. At the 2014 Chicago Marathon, he earned his first victory in a World Marathon Major. He later went on to win the title of series champion in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021. He has a record-setting four victories in the London Marathon. He earned a gold in 2021.
After winning the London Marathon in May 2019, Kipchoge introduced the Ineos 1:59 Challenge.. He raced the 42.195 kilometers on October 12 in a phenomenal time of 1:59:40:2, becoming the first person in history to do so and break the marathon distance two-hour barrier.
On Sunday, 25th September, 2022, Eliud Kipchoge won his fourth Berlin Marathon title, breaking his own record and setting a new World Marathon Record of 2:01:09 - 30 seconds off the previous world record.
In addition to two gold medals from the Olympics and a world record, he has won 15 of his 17 marathons. It is tough to argue against his standing as the greatest to have ever done it given his TWO OLYMPIC gold medals, nine significant marathon victories, and possibly the biggest PR "stunt" in our sport's history.
Kipchoge has been consistent with what inspires him to run, saying he wants to make the world "a running village". Eliud’s motto is #NoHumanIsLimited and we should honor him for representing our country and being such a great inspiration.
