Mandatory desexing of animals

Mandatory desexing of animals

The issue

The welfare of cats and dogs is a continuing issue with no mandatory desexing legislated by our local and federal governments, which encourages backyard breeders and people to continue to allow their animals to breed with no consequences for their actions nor for the welfare of these animals.

we have a responsibility to act in the interest and the welfare of these animals who currently have no rights and protection and are treated with disregard to their safety, welfare and quality of life.

the animal shelters, local pounds and foster carers are under enormous pressure to house these animals until they are adopted out and at their own costs and relying on public donations to feed, vaccinate, desex and microchip them and they quite often have to turn away animals as they are full to capacity.

The welfare and care of these animals should not be expected to be placed on the shoulders of all these animal shelters, local pounds and foster carers, as it should be the responsibility of the owners by law to desex these animals.

i am passionate about animals and I have worked with a local animal shelter fostering cats at my own cost until there is room in the animal shelter to house them and I am only one of many who provide this service as we all love and care for all animals.

It distresses me greatly when I see animals not cared for properly, abandoned and allowed to breed and then roam our local streets in our communities when all of this could be prevented by common sense to change the laws in regards to animal welfare which includes mandatory desexing and putting the responsibility back on the owners.

Our animals are vulnerable and subjected to abuse and they require us to act in their interests and to petition for the law to be changed to mandatory desexing for their welfare.

It is the responsibility of local and federal governments to listen and act for the welfare of all animals.

Thankyou for your time.
