GET THE FDA'S ATTENTION FOR INCONSISTENT MEDICATION FOR MENTAL HEALTH

GET THE FDA'S ATTENTION FOR INCONSISTENT MEDICATION FOR MENTAL HEALTH
The Issue
Just a little about me. I am a 40 year old male. I have OCD, Anxiety, and Depression. Starting in 2007, I started a regimen when I decided I needed to see a Psychiatrist and Psychologist for my OCD, Anxiety, and Depression. I tried a couple different antidepressants, before I found the one that was right for me, which was Cymbalta, name brand at that time. I also was given generic Clonazepam by a manufacturer called Mylan Pharmaceuticals. Since 2007 I never ran into any problems with either of these medications. Both were always the same medications I would get every 90 days, when I would refill my prescriptions. Then in 2014, Cymbalta went generic after its patent ran out. I thought nothing of it. So I received a generic by a manufacturer by the name of Actavis, and within 3-4 days, I felt like I started having SEVERE PANIC ATTACKS and withdrawals from the name brand medication. The generic they gave me was like taking a Placebo. Within 2 weeks I immediately made an appointment to see my Psychiatrist to see what we could do for my company that I work for through my insurance, to cover the name brand. I had to jump through hoops and hurdles to finally get it approved, with my doctor filling out brand penalty exception forms and much more beyond that. So finally, in the middle of 2014, I was able to once again, get my name brand Cymbalta, at a much higher cost, but still far less than if my doctor didn't fill out the brand penalty exception form, and another form that was needed.
So fast forward to June 28, 2018. I go to Walgreens to get my prescription for the 1mg a day of generic Klonopin (Clonazepam MYLAN BRAND) that I've been on since 2007. I get home, and realize it's some new pill from a different manufacturer. It was a 1mg Clonazepam by a manufacturer called Accord. Well, I thought nothing of it, being that the Mylan Clonazepam is a generic as well. Well once again, but now 10 times worse, I start going into major withdrawal, and ALL of my OCD, INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS, SEVERE ANXIETY, AND DEPRESSION became DEBILITATING! I am a flight attendant and was on a work trip, and thought I was going to have a panic attack at the hotel on my layover. Once again, I called my Psychiatrist to get into see him ASAP. I called Walgreens and Mylan Pharmaceuticals to see what was going on, and why my medication wasn't available. Walgreens claimed it was on back order. Then I was doing research online, and found out it was discontinued by MYLAN WITHOUT ANY NOTICE TO THE CONSUMER. Now I know manufacturers come and go with their medications, but when you are dealing with MENTAL HEALTH and MENTAL ILLNESS, there is NO EXCUSE and this SHOULD be ILLEGAL! I called MYLAN and they told me, that it was discontinued. I've called numerous times and have written emails to ask them to please reconsider bringing this medication back. To no avail, and honestly their representatives don't care about the situation at large. I have tried the ACCORD, ACTAVIS, SOLCO, ROCHE GENETECH (name brand), PAR (disintegrating tablets), and they have the effect of a sugar pill. I now have Tinnitus in my ears since the Mylan brand is no longer available, within a week period. This is due to the discontinuation and withdrawals from the Mylan, since they are no longer in my system, and the other supposedly SAME medications from other manufacturers, are not working. I continued my research, and found out that the INACTIVE INGREDIENTS that the FDA allows these companies to use are ALL DIFFERENT. And the amount of ACTIVE INGREDIENTS can vary by over 20%! Yet they tell you, that they are all equal! NO THEY ARE NOT. When I called the FDA in the late summer of 2018, they told me that Mylan has no responsibility to the public to keep making the medication. They also claimed that they allow so many different manufacturers to make these medications due to the fact that it lowers the cost to the consumer. Well that's fine and dandy, if the medications were equal! Mylan, was by far the most superior and highest quality medication for myself. I've read on many forums online that Mylan and Teva, both of which stopped making Clonazepam, that people by the thousands are having severe withdrawals. My own nurse practitioner and Psychiatrist have had the same issues with their patients as well. I am well established, and have done well in my life, just like I'm sure many others suffering, have as well. But this isn't right. I feel like Mylan has an obligation to it's consumers. They had no problem selling this medication since 1998, but are they this greedy that other medications may bring them more money now? Well, they and the FDA have an obligation in my opinion, and I will flight tooth and nail against Mylan and the FDA for allowing all these manufacturers to not adhere to the same effectiveness as their competition. Mental health medication is not something to toy with. And they've allowed it to go on for too long. The FDA claim the effectiveness is all the same, and that's a BLATANT LIE. I have felt suicidal, extremely fatigued, and completely anxiety ridden due to the failure of the system. It's time the consumer does something about it! Thank you for reading and getting a further understanding of what society in the United States has to deal with when it comes to Mental Illness. I hope for those of you struggling with the same situation, to please do everything in your means to make change. Call, Email, and reach out to your State Representatives, the FDA, and these Big Pharmaceutical companies till you are blue in the face, and demand change now! Below I am going to paste the different websites that show the different ingredients in each manufacturer's Clonazepam, while also pasting forums of what people are going through with TEVA and MYLAN taking their Clonazepam off the market.
