My Vehicle, My Choice: Remove Ethanol from Petrol
The Issue
The Issue
Millions of vehicle owners across India are being compelled to use ethanol-blended petrol (E20) without any option to purchase pure petrol. While ethanol blending is promoted to reduce crude oil imports and support environmental goals, many consumers have reported concerns regarding:
Reduced fuel efficiency (mileage).
Increased fuel consumption and operating costs.
Potential long-term effects on engines, fuel lines, rubber components, and older vehicles.
Reduced performance in certain vehicles and motorcycles.
Lack of consumer choice at fuel stations.
Insufficient public awareness regarding vehicle compatibility with E20 fuel.
Absence of long-term independent studies addressing consumer concerns.
Vehicle owners who purchased their vehicles before E20 implementation were not given a choice regarding future fuel compatibility. Consumers should have the right to choose the fuel best suited to their vehicles and should not be forced to bear any additional costs or risks resulting from policy changes.
We urge the Government of India to review the current ethanol blending policy, conduct transparent independent studies, publish comprehensive impact assessments, and restore the availability of pure petrol so that consumers can make informed choices based on their vehicle requirements.
My Vehicle, My Choice — Give Indian Consumers the Right to Choose Pure Petrol.
