My Cayman MP and Premier, we demand you to support a snap General Election in 2022

The Issue

I, the undersigned petitioner and registered elector of the Cayman Islands, direct my Member of Parliament to support my Premier in his consultation with the Governor for him to immediately prorogue and dissolve my House of Parliament in order to call a new General Election of Members of Parliament (hereinafter referred to as “MP’s”) before the end of December 2022 or as soon thereafter lawful when a minimum of twenty-five percent (25%) of registered Cayman Islands electors sign this petition in accordance with the Cayman Islands Constitution Order (2009) (hereinafter referred to as my “Constitution”) section 70.

WHEREAS, as a registered voter in the Cayman Islands, I RECLAIM MY VOTING POWER democratically to instruct my elected representative to act in accordance with MY wishes and to not act in accordance with their own self-interest, financial or political advancement since being first elected or re-elected in 2021, while continuing to ignore me and not respond to my repeated messages, emails and phone calls, rather than to give away my vote to one political party over another political party when both political parties have been lacking when in control of government;

WHEREAS I agree with my Constitution and my Parliamentary Pensions Act that they no longer refer to themselves as Members of Parliament and that the Speaker of the House of Parliament, who is an elected MP, parliamentary seat also becomes vacant and must also stand for re-election as an MP if so choosing to do so, because I want a do-over election since I have voter remorse;

WHEREAS I agree with Constitution, section 86(1) which mandates that a General Election shall be held within two (2) months after the Governor dissolves the current House of Parliament by proclamation published in a Government Notice.

WHEREAS I understand that when parliament is dissolved, every seat in the House of Parliament becomes vacant, which means that there are no longer any Members of Parliament;

WHEREAS I desire that every one of Cayman’s nineteen (19) current MP’s before the Governor prorogues and dissolves my House of Parliament cease to represent their respective constituents and immediately lose access to parliamentary facilities, constituency allowance cash and resources that I believe is NOT being equitably and fairly distributed within each and every constituency, based on the widespread amount of complaints being reported publicly by many different constituents who are also being ignored and unrepresented;

By the Constitution, this people-initiated petition shall have the effect and purpose of complying with the provisions of section 70 People-initiated referendums of said Constitution, with the express intention of presenting it to the Cabinet of the Cayman Islands Government to hold a referendum on the matter set out above.

BE IT THEREFORE, by my signature herein as the said petitioner, I hereby understand, acknowledge and agree that this People-initiated Petition shall be used and presented for such purpose and I hereby give my full consent to such use and presentation.
