Music Makers' Charter

Music Makers' Charter

Sign the Music Makers’ Charter Today
Music is powerful. It improves health, boosts confidence, strengthens communities, and helps people thrive. But for too many, the chance to make music is out of reach.
Over the past decade, investment in music education and community music groups has steadily declined. Music GCSE entries have fallen by 30%, and those with the least access and support are being left behind.
That’s why Music for All has launched the Music Makers’ Charter – a call for urgent action. We’re demanding:
- Increased government investment in music education and community music-making
- Greater support for people facing financial, health, or social barriers to participating in music making
- Stronger recognition of music’s role in improving education, well-being, and social inclusion
We’ve seen first-hand the life-changing power of music - from helping people with dementia reconnect with loved ones to empowering young people to find their voice.
One inspiring example of this is a project run by MAC Makes Music and Solihull Youth Justice, which brought over 50 young people into music-making sessions. The project nurtured self expression, built confidence and has even opened real career pathways in music production. Music for All proudly supported this initiative, which has been shortlisted for Music Mark’s Talk Into Action Award.
We’re proud to be supported by advocates including journalist Cathy Newman, musicians Chi-chi Nwanoku CBE, Hannah Rankin, Kate Rusby, Emanuel J Burton, as well as music-health expert Dr. Julia Jones.
Our campaign is also backed by industry partners such as:
- The Benedetti Foundation
- Association of British Orchestras
- Independent Society of Musicians
- Hal Leonard, Barnes & Mullins, Music Mark
- The National Academy for Social Prescribing
