Keep the "West / Blackman Park" Property A Community Space

The Issue

The 123 acre property in Western Murfreesboro / Blackman Community is earmarked to be rezoned form P (park) to CH (Commercial Highway) with GDO exceptions. Reports from City Council have been that it will be for a business park, but no site plan has been revealed.

As the city grows the need for green space along with civic services are needed on the portion of the city west of Interstate 24. What was once farm land for miles has been mostly developed, causing wildlife and environmental damage. Keeping a large portion (60+ acres) a green space would help tremendously with the local ecology. The area also lacks a post office, a library, a community center, or any city office such as the county clerk (car tag, passport, drivers license renewals).

It is the goal of this petition to keep the land city owned with a large portion (60+ acres) as a green space. The rapid growth requires services for tax payers and if this land is sold the city will need to buy more later. Land is scarce and expensive in this zip code now and selling off this property is going to cause more problems in the near future than it is solving today.
