Help End Hunger in the Philippines

Help End Hunger in the Philippines
The Issue
INTRODUCTION
The Philippines faces serious hunger and poverty. Conflicts between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Filipino government in addition to the frequent natural disasters have only intensified the existing food insecurity. The Philippines’ Global Hunger Index (GHI) is currently 20.3, ranking the country 69 out 119 and placing it under the “Serious” category in the Global Hunger Index. Although, this number is down from the 25.9 rating that the Philipines had back in 2000. The World Food Programme is also working towards reducing hunger in the Philippines. They are focusing on peacemaking between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Filipino government in order to relieve the high poverty and hunger rates of the affected areas.
PURPOSE
This petition is to aim and to end or eradicate extreme poverty and hunger in the Philippines. We aim to increase the number of people in the Philippines who are screened and treated for undernutrition and to build the capacity of local health systems to reduce hunger in the country. We are committed to research, partnerships, and learning that will allow us to continually improve policy and practice to help achieve the goal of ending undernutrition. End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
DESCRIPTION
Related terms include food insecurity and malnutrition. Food insecurity refers to limited or unreliable access to foods that are safe and nutritionally adequate. Malnutrition is a condition resulting from insufficient intake of biologically necessary nutrients. Although malnutrition includes both overnutrition and under nutrition, the focus for global hunger is undernutrition. Hunger is caused by so much more than a shortage of food.
Even in places where food is plentiful or can be grown, challenges like disasters, conflict or poverty prevent people from accessing it. Poverty is the main cause of hunger in the Philippines. Poverty includes people's lack of resources, such as food, water, proper climate, and even soil fertility. Giving an unequal pay can also lead to poverty. Without the money, you can't buy food, water etc; pretty much anything to survive. However, hunger can also lead to poverty. By causing poor health, and even low levels of energy, hunger can lead to even greater poverty by reducing people's ability to work and learn. Therefore, there is a relationship between poverty & hunger, and that one affects the other, like vice versa. A major issue with hunger is that there is enough food for everyone but many people either do not have the land to farm for their own food or the income to purchase their food and thus they are unable to eat. Some one the main causes of hunger is poverty, harmful economic systems that contribute to more poverty, climate change making farming and agriculture more difficult, and conflict in countries. As of now the world is not making much progress towards solving world hunger.
