Much needed SEN Park&Hub in Stafford

Much needed SEN Park&Hub in Stafford
The Issue
The introduction of a SEN Park and Hub in Stafford would help countless children and young people with disabilities, as well as their carers and families.
A SEN Park and Hub will offer individuals a safe and secure area to play freely, to explore their sensory curiosities and to interact and build relationships with others; all of which will contribute towards a much needed and deserved, improved quality of life.
At present, there are very limited opportunities on offer for the SEN community within Stafford. As a result, we are forced to isolate away from the world during weekends, half terms and summer holidays, times where support is needed the most, due to changes of routine and lack of structure.
Places are too crowded, parks are located near busy roads or water, and often in environments where there is a great deal of litter and mess- all of which create worry and anxiety around lack of safety, especially for individuals who are at greater risk of drowning, eloping, and consuming unsafe or inedible items.
Furthermore, the lack of accessibility and suitably appropriate equipment, means that some people feel excluded and unable to partake in activities that so many others may take for granted.
A place like this will not solely benefit our community, and not just this generation of children and young adults- it will benefit future generations and countless families and carers.
To always have a place to go after school, at the weekend or during holidays, a place where they can socialise safely and freely without judgment, place for the community to meet, be heard, be seen and valued. a place where they belong.
Having attended sessions at SNAP in Cannock, a well loved Special Needs Playground, and having spoken to multiple parents and carers, many of whom who had travelled far and wide, it became clear that places like this are so rare, that many people are having to travel at great distances, to simply feel like a regular member of society enjoying a break with their loved ones in a safe and inclusive place.
In addition to the above, it could also provide charities with a hub from which to provide valuable information to both existing and new SEN families, and depending on its development and progress be a place where training and learning opportunities could take place. Finally, there will also be opportunities to develop positive working relationships within the wider community, to support fundraising and raise awareness for causes that will benefit so many.
Having structure, routine, predictability and feeling safe and secure, plays a great deal in the well-being of individuals with additional needs- the opportunity to offer them and the people who support them, a hub and safe space where all of the above can be achieved, will be a priceless asset and one which will improve overall well-being.
Inclusivity is a basic human right and as such, we hope you will sign this petition to bring a SEN Park and Hub to Stafford, so that we can achieve the above goals and give individuals with disabilities, a chance to thrive and grow in an environment, that is safe and suitable for them.
