Petition update#MSU Has STILL NOT Addressed ALL of the Abuse It Covered-Up. Help Us Find Justice.Senate Questioning of Lou Anna K. Simon Past Provost & President of #MSU

The problem with the Senate’s questioning of Ms. Simon, and the nature of her responses, is that we’re left with a half-truth. “Bureaucracy” at #MSU did not keep the truth from coming out regarding Larry Nassar. Rather, a fundamentally CORRUPT bureaucracy, which engaged in a coordinated cover-up, kept students at risk for a long period of time. In asserting her lack of culpability for the hostile work environment that Dean Strampel created in MSUCOM, Simon pointed out that she was assuming the role of President when this was happening–and that fixing faculty/staff problems of that sort fall to the PROVOST. Well, Lou Anna K. Simon was absolutely the Provost when the student government I led in Owen Hall was trying to complain vociferously about safety issues in the dorm in 1992-3. We were silenced by an MSU Vice President who stole the OGA government’s student-tax dollars, used the “campus judicial process” that he controlled like a kangaroo court, and then threatened to OUT several students (myself included) as gay, when we still wouldn’t shut up. Lou Anna Simon, who absolutely knew that Student Affairs staff members were using sexual orientation as a weapon against students, DID NOTHING to stop either the abuse, or the abuse of process. I believe that her lack of action makes her as worthy of firing as Larry Nassar. I’ve posted a petition asking MSU to finally set this travesty right at: https://www.change.org/p/msu-still-ignores-its-past-abuse-of-gay-students-has-made-no-real-change-endtheabusemsu … and I encourage all to sign it, and to SHARE it. As Lou Anna K Simon notes–MSU’s bureaucracy has a lot of inertia, and it never responds absent a great crisis. So I encourage all to withhold their donations to MSU, tell John Engler (presmail@msu.edu) that you're doing so, and help ensure that the current generation of MSU students are the LAST GENERATION to witness staff-sanctioned abuse on campus. Attached photo: hundreds of students signed a petition in the 1990s when MSU shut down the student government in Owen Hall because it was complaining about campus safety. Hundreds of signatures does not create change at State. PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR NETWORK.
