Minister Lindiwe Zulu announced that "If you received a child grant, NSFAS funding or UIF benefit, your application wouldl be rejected if you applied for the social relief grant."

Now NSFAS has students from different institutions receiving funding. NSFAS covers the following for university students : Accommodation, Transport( R7 500  p/a), Living allowance (R15, 000p/a), Book allowances (R5200 p/a) , Incidental/personal care allowance( R2900 p/a) and The following for TVET students : Accommodation (urban area R24,000 p/a, peri-urban area R18,900 p/a, rural area R15,750 p/a), Transport(R7000 & R7,350  per annum), Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 p/a.

However for UNISA students that's not the case. UNISA students only receive a R5200 book allowance(which normally isn't even enough) & R2900 personal care allowance if you have registered for 10 Modules.

How is it fair to them not to receive any sort of Relief funding? What happens to the students that have registered for 9 modules? In most cases students have to use their own pocket money to purchase data to complete and submit assignments & also use their pocket money for transportation to internet cafes and exam venues. Currently there are UNISA students with no study material because NSFAS failed to allocate allowances in time. 

Sassa & NSFAS need to be fair to the unemployed UNISA students and allow them to receive the R350 social relief fund as they don't receive the same amount of funding from NSFAS compared to university/TVET students.
