Compassionate Release - Early Release from Prison for My Father-In-Law

Compassionate Release - Early Release from Prison for My Father-In-Law
The Issue
I need everyone to read this about my father-in-law. He needs the people’s help!! His name is Francis Ray Gollott, Jr., aka “Ray Ray”. He is 57 years old and in 2019 he was diagnosed with a terminal heart and lung disease called Pulmonary Hypertension. Pulmonary Hypertension is a death sentence. It is a rare disease that affects about 200,000 Americans per year according to the Mayo Clinic. This disease causes the blood vessels between the heart and lungs to narrow and after a long period without specialized treatment, the sufferer will essentially drown on his own blood. At the time of diagnosis, he was given 2 years to live; but only if he receives specialized (and extremely expensive) care from a physician with an expertise in this disease. Without it, he will live at the very most 6-9 months. The specialized medication he was prescribed for this disease, Letairis, costs $2,828.00 for a supply of only 10 5mg pills. He is prescribed to take two tablets per day. {I have medical records for anyone who doubts my claims.}
On December 9, 2019, my father in law was sentenced to 15 years in Mississippi’s infamous/notorious Department of Corrections for a drug sale charge. He was initially indicted as a habitual offender where the prosecutors cited a 2015 charge and one from the 1980s as grounds for the “habitual offender” indictment. He hired his long-time family friend to represent him (I won’t name the lawyer here) and to avoid a 20 year mandatory sentence, he accepted a plea deal. He was promised house arrest. House arrest was ideal because he knew his disease is terminal and knew that if he accepted the deal he could spend his last days at home with his family.
The house arrest deal was thrown out the window…
The prosecutor told the judge that he “thinks” he had a drug sale charge in 2015 and is “almost positive” he had another sale charge in 2016. The problem is with these statements is that my father in law was already in prison for both of those years on a prior conviction so what the prosecutor said is impossible. But, unfortunately, by those assumptions and false accusations alone the judge informed my father in law that his health is not a concern of the court and he will have to die in prison. Then came the 15 year sentence… He is not even eligible for parole until 2023. He will not make it that long.
This is a death sentence…
Since he has been behind bars – first Harrison County Adult Detention Center and now Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Pearl, MS – he has not had any specialized care. After only a few days in jail, he was hospitalized for 4 days. MDOC is not giving him the Letairis, even though a family member brought the medication to Harrison County when he arrived. MDOC is giving him the medications that they see fit. The medicines he is being given so far don’t work and the side effects are unbearable, according to him. In every phone conversation, which has been few due to the lockdown situations because of the uprising in MS Prisons, he has reported worse and worse health conditions. He even stated that when he arrived to the Pearl, MS facility that he had to be carried off the transport bus by other inmates and was treated as if he were faking his illness by the prison staff. Not to mention, he has been placed in general population which is inhumane considering he needs around the clock medical care…..
We are pushing for a Compassionate Release! Please help us!
He is not a violent offender! He is not going to harm the community….. he needs to be home with his loved ones to spend his last days! He needs to be where is loved and is taken care of! He does not have a long time left…. HE DOES NOT DESERVE TO DIE IN SQUALID CONDITIONS BEING THROWN AWAY LIKE TRASH!! HE NEEDS HELP!
We, his family (and especially his 4 grandchildren – ages 2, 6, 7 & 13), are desperate.WE NEED A VOICE!!! Please help us! Please sign our petition! Please help me reach MDOC! Please help bring our Paw Paw/Daddy/Ray Ray home!
Thank you,
Ashley Hutchins Gollott
