Ms. Beltran Needs to Reevaluate Her Outdated Teaching Methods and Unfair Grading System
The Issue
As students in Ms Beltrans class we are facing a significant challenge in our educational journey due to the teaching methods and grading system employed by Ms. Beltran. Her approach is outdated and ineffective, leading to an average grade on Finals being a D for most students - a fact she seems proud of. This is not only demoralizing but also damaging to our academic records.
Her tests are unrealistic with finals accounting for 40% of our total grade yet we have been given no study materials or guides leading up to this crucial assessment. Instead, we've been engaged in arts and crafts activities that do not contribute significantly towards understanding the course content.
When questioned about grading discrepancies on assignments where we have performed well, her response has been dismissive – "it is what it is". Furthermore, she relies solely on an online textbook as a learning resource which does not cater adequately to diverse learning styles among students.
An 'A' grade in her class seems unattainable under these circumstances - a sentiment echoed by many past and present students who share our distaste for her teaching style. It's important to note that an average grade on finals being a 'D' reflects more on the teacher than the student body.
Education should be effective, engaging and fair; it should inspire us to learn more rather than discourage us with seemingly futile efforts towards achieving good grades. We deserve better from those entrusted with shaping our future through education.
Although admin at the school have been made aware of these problems repeatedly they are put in a bad situation because of her tenure. So this petition is not a call to action for our school, but a plea from her disheartened students. Despite her intransigence, we urge Ms. Beltran to review her teaching methods and grading system urgently so that they align with modern pedagogical practices that foster effective learning environments conducive for all learners.
Please sign this petition if you believe Ms Beltran should reevaluate her methods and all students at College Park deserve a fair education no matter the teacher. Ms Beltran, how many students futures have to be affected due to your unwillingness to reflect and elicit change?
