Our organization is committed to seeking justice for those affected by racism and tyranny. Multiple persons have approached us complaining of Judge Stacey Jernigan over the years and alleging she has ruined or attempted to ruin their lives. A review of the public record also shows that she was sued by two plaintiffs in the Eastern District of Texas federal court, where at least two female lawyers testified against her.

Stepping in Stacey Jernigan’s courtroom is terrifying for many, especially people of color. On any given day, one may observe her yelling at, disparaging or otherwise silencing the voices of the poor in general, but people of color in particular.  She has threatened, for no apparent reason, Black and Latino litigants and lawyers alike. She tried to force at least one lawyer to testify against her client, and sent federal marshals to her home to talk to neighbors and go through her mail (without a warrant) when the lawyer didn’t cooperate. A Jewish litigant complained that she made disparaging remarks about Jews, and a Latino lawyer was so offended by her remarks he considered reporting her to the various Latino news outlets but did not out of fear of retaliation.

Stacey Jernigan appears to reserve her “judgment” and wrath for the minority and poor, seeming to always side with large corporations and law firms, whom she calls her friends in court records. Such bias is unacceptable for any judge, but particularly a bankruptcy judge whom should have a modicum of understanding for the people, often downtrodden, who come before the bench.
