Willard "Mitt" Romney is running for President of the United States. American voters in deciding both whether to support him in the Republican Primary Race and in the general election should be able to make their judgment and cast their vote with information that matters to them.

There are several reasons why voters care about and should care about Romney's financial success:

1. Mitt Romney is building his campaign on his success in the private market. No one doubts that Mr. Romney has made a great deal of money, but voters do not have enough information to decide for themselves what they think about how that money was made. Especially important would be to have a better understanding of Romney's growth in wealth from his time at Bain Capital. Voters deserve to know if Romney can show that his wealth came from his own hard work and leadership or if his wealth was made at the expense of others, in unethical ways, or through financial games and legal loopholes.

2. Voters should also be able to judge for themselves whether Romney profited grossly and unethically from the financial collapse of 2008. Since many voters lost their homes, retirements, and jobs due to the financial meltdown it is fair that voters know whether the man who wants to lead the country unfairly profited from the destruction of lives and livelihoods of millions of American workers and voters.

3. Voters are aware that people can alter their financial situations, taxes, and image and do so in preparation for campaigns for political office. By releasing only his most recent returns Mr. Romney has the ability to deceive voters by showing the picture of his wealth that he chooses to and one that is likely highly polished and designed. This is why Mr. Romney's father release twelve years of returns to show he was not hiding anything. Mr Romney, should, at a minimum feel as confident in releasing his own records so that voters can judge him based on openness, honesty, and transparency. There is no other way to truly earn the votes and support of the American people.
