Mr. President: don't preempt the NFL Opener
The Issue
Mr. President--you have recently, and quite frequently, stated how much you would love to see both parties in congress work together to solve problems on behalf of the American people. Additionally, I know that the NFL lockout was longer than most NFL fans would have liked, but in the end they got together, found some common ground, and got the thing done.
Mr. President, Football is America's sport, and frankly it is un-American to preempt two of America's teams--the defending Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers and the Saints representing the heroic people of New Orleans--to give some speech on jobs.
Now since you're the one talking about getting along and dropping the rhetoric--don't go blaming the Republicans--you're the one who is picking the date for this speech.
Currently millions of Americans are struggling to make ends meet with high unemployment and rising gas and food prices due mostly to a number of fiscal policies that have lead to a weakening dollar--and frankly we don't really care about your speech, whether we're from Packer Nation or Who 'Dat Country--with our friends and family, we just want to enjoy some football.
