Declare August 29th, Mr. Michael Joseph Jackson's birthday, a Federal Holiday in the U.S and refer this request to the General Assembly Third Committee, to establish this day a Global Holiday.

The Issue

I would like to petition the United States House of Representatives to declare August 29th (the birthday of Michael Joseph Jackson) a Federal Holiday in the United States of America. Furthermore, we would like the House to refer this request to The Social Humanitarian Cultural Committee, (Third Committee) of the General Assembly, to establish the day mentioned, a Global Holiday.

Mr. Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29th 1958 - June 25th 2009) is an American singer, songwriter, actor, musician, dancer, businessman, and philanthropist. Michael Jackson is an inspirational global icon that has reigned for over four decades. We must acknowledge him for his contributions in many humanitarian endeavors that has benefited man kind. He is a treasurable global figure because of this success.

Mr. Jackson was quite auriferous in his career. He has an unparalleled worldwide influence over both the younger and older generations as a result of his musical and humanitarian contributions. After his sudden death in June of 2009 at the age of 50 it became recognized as a moment of significance. His death was notable for a worldwide outpouring of grief and the unprecedented global connection was significant and historical, to say the least. But celebrating the death of such a prominent figure memorializes the grief and anguish experienced that day and the events that took place thereafter. However, memorializing August 29th, the birth of Mr. Michael Joseph Jackson celebrates the life of the most treasurable global figure that has and will continue to be a positive influence that has touched the lives of so many.

Throughout Mr. Jacksons career he received numerous honors and hundreds of awards for his musical and humanitarian contributions. The President of the United States, Ronald Regan awarded him at the White House for an endowment towards a safety expedition promoted by the White House. Mr. Jackson returned to receive recognition as "Artist of the Decade" by President George H. W. Bush. Two years later, President Bush presented him with an award acknowledging him as "a point of light ambassador". Mr. Jackson also joined forces with former president Jimmy Carter in a national effort to help raise funds and establish local social service immunization programs. One of those programs was "The Atlanta Project", related to Mr. Jackson's "Heal L.A." charitable foundation. Mr. Jackson also performed at the Presidential Inauguration of President Bill Clinton January 1993.

From obligingly promenading command performances for the Queen of England, and honoring the presence of the Princess of Wales with a felicitous curtsy, to a crowned "King Sani" by a tribal chief in Africa, Mr. Jackson's distinguished notoriety serves as a momentous global imprint that will endure many lifetimes. Awarded a Diamond Award and named one of the princes of Africa, a prestigious ceremony with various high-profile political leaders of Africa gathered in his honor. In Japan and other various parts of the world he received the "Key To The City". In the city of Las Vegas he received the "Key To The City" and the mayor also made October 25 "Michael Jackson Day". Mr. Jackson visited the United States Army base south of Tokyo and the colonel commemorated him with a letter of appreciation. Another honor, by the British Council of Cultural Relations named Mr. Jackson's life one of the 80 most important cultural moments of the 20th century.

Mr. Jackson's influence also extends into academia, with references in reports on music, popular culture, chemistry and an array of other topics. The Mesoparapylocheles michaeljacksoni, an extinct hermit crab which existed during the Albian or Cenomanian of what is now Spain, is name after Michael Jackson. A crater on the moon previously known as Posidonius J (located at Lake of Dreams) is currently renamed after Michael Jackson by The Lunar Republic Society. Mr. Michael Jackson also received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from the United Negro College Fund and also an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Fisk University.

Mr. Jackson's success during the 1980s and 1990s included a number of notable statistical accomplishments. Thriller is the sixth studio album by Mr. Jackson, and it became—and currently remains—the best-selling album of all time. In the United States, it is the best-selling album and has become the first album ever certified multi-platinum 32 times . The album won a record-breaking eight Grammy Awards in 1984, including "Album of the Year. Thriller enabled Mr. Jackson to break down racial barriers. The album is also included in the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry of culturally significant recordings and the Thriller video included in the National Film Preservation Board's National Film Registry of "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant films".

In conclusion Mr. Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29th, to give so much to humanity and the world. This day will be in honor of his name, and a token of his courage. The symbol of strength in his perseverance, and a landmark of his altruism. Please accept this request with our purest sincerity to declare 8.29 Mr. Michael Joseph Jackson Day.
