STARBUCKS STOP SELLING COFFEE FROM INDONESIA

STARBUCKS STOP SELLING COFFEE FROM INDONESIA
The Issue
STARBUCKS STOP THE PROMOTION AND SALE OF COFFEE FROM INDONESIA
We are asking Starbucks to remove all coffee and coffee products originating from Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region from their stores.
The people of Indonesia’s islands continue to practice a terrible terror on dogs and cats as well as other animals. Dogs are blow torched, barbecued and sliced alive. Others have their throats slit . Many of these dogs are pets and community street dogs who have been trapped in metal cages for days - without food or water. Cats also share the same fate.
Starbucks has been called the world's most ethical company - they need to live up to this honor. Starbucks also claims to follow a strict code of social responsibility and a commitment to animal welfare. Howard Schultz has said, " We are not in the business of filling bellies. We are in the business of filling souls." He has also said “We remain highly respectful of the culture and traditions of the countries in which we do business. We recognize that our success is not an entitlement, and we must continue to earn the trust and respect of customers every day.” We remind Mr. Schultz that respect for a culture and its traditions must never become an excuse and a justification for cruelty to Man or Animal. Starbucks's Indonesian coffees are grown in the very regions where dogs and cats are starved and brutalized for profits. A dog snatcher/smuggler can earn nearly $1,200/month working part-time.
Starbucks must remove the following coffee products from not only their brick and mortar locations, but also from their online stores. We also ask them to stop selling these products to grocery stores, retailers and at licensed, independently operated Starbucks locations and all other venues whether temporary or permanent.
As a multinational involved in the coffee trade in Indonesia, we also expect Starbucks's supply-chain ethical guidelines to include references to the cruelty of the dog and cat meat trade and consumption.
This brutal behavior towards dogs and cats must come to an end. If Governments won't ban nor legislate or enforce animal anti-cruelty laws; if companies won't listen; then we must boycott.
Indonesian Coffee
*Starbucks Sumatra whole bean
*Starbucks Gold Coast blend (multi-region)
*Sumatra brewed coffee Verismo pods
*Starbucks Sumatra Ground
*Sumatra Portion Packs
*Sumatra Decaf Sumatra whole bean
*Starbucks Komodo Dragon Blend
*Starbucks Muan Jai Blend
*Starbucks Reserve Isla Flores Indonesia
*Sulawesi Single Origin Sulawesi Coffee
*Any other coffees, beverages or food selections of multiple (country/region) origin or single (country/region) origin
* All coffees and other products from Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, South Korea, China, Laos, Philippines and any country involved with the cruel dog and cat meat, skin and fur trade.
Facts
The Government of Indonesia has no intention of putting an end to this cruelty, instead they plan to regulate it, just like the regulation of the legal slaughter of livestock animals.
Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia consumes a minimum of 40 dogs a day tortured and slaughtered in Sukabum, West Java and received in Jakarta.
80% of the Balinese people eat 100,000 dogs annually. Balinese restaurants serve them unabashedly.
Sulawesi / Tomohon, Sulawesi is an important epicenter of the dog torture and meat trade. Dogs are tortured and eaten through out Indonesia daily.
With 24,000 stores in 70 countries; 200 of them in Indonesia, it’s clear that Starbucks has an ethical responsibility to speak out not only own its concern but the concern of its customers for animal welfare and the rights of all sentient beings, including dogs and cats to not be brutalized. Dogs and cats are not food. They are pets and loving companions.
From an eye witness account at the infamous Tomohon market " Dogs being pulled from cramped cages, clubbed on the head and then flame-grilled alive at the local markets on a near daily-basis. Rupert observed some of the dogs kicking frantically as the flames scorched their bodies."
