Keep Miss Aitken teaching at Aberdeen Grammar School

The Issue

Dear Mr G. Legge,
Having recently been informed by pupils and parents of affected individuals I have recently been informed of the impending dismissal of a member of your teaching staff. The following message is given on behalf of all affected individuals in question, be it teacher, parent or pupil. The teacher in question, a Miss Aitken, has recently announced her dismissal from the teaching staff. We are shocked and stunned at the sudden dismissal of such a devoted and well loved teacher. Although Miss Aitken refuses to discuss the matter with pupils, we are well aware that Aitken has been teaching at the school for near one and a half years. Throughout, Miss Aitken has demonstrated outstanding commitment and educational excellence reflected in both her recent trip to China with pupils in her own free time, as well as the resoundingly positive and loving feeling toward her among both parents and pupils.
Being such a shocking and seemingly unfair decision, a local newspaper, The Evening Express, has understandably noted particular interest in the predicament due to the apparent and obvious negative opinion surrounding the decision being made, especially since it concerns such a well loved and competent teacher. We also understand that should Miss Aitken be dismissed, the classes she currently teaches will be moving on to their fourth teacher this year. Obviously such a number being nothing short of ridiculous, a vast number of pupils and parents have expressed their acute dissatisfaction regarding the quality of education either themselves or their children are receiving. Such a disruption of the course’s teaching (which we believe is Modern Studies) has led to an outspoken desire among we affected individuals, both pupils, parents and teachers, to lodge a formal complaint with the SQA and Aberdeen City Council.
Compiled below is an extensive list of names indicating the scale and magnitude of our strong dissatisfaction and disbelief regarding the decision being made. Should the above expressed opinions and following petition of names not force you to reconsider your decision, which we sincerely hope it does, we would ask that a newsletter or vocal announcement be given to pupils and parents explaining the exact reasons Miss Aitken cannot be kept on teaching at the school, however we are confident you will make the right decision and such information and efforts as just mentioned will not be required. However failing reconsideration, we will expect absolute transparency regarding the factors in this decision as , at this point in time, we do not understand or support the decision being made.

Thank you very much for your valuable time,
Yours sincerely,
A concerned individual
