The government of Curacao must provide land and funds for the Cats of Curacao sanctuary.

The Issue

There is a severe problem with overpopulation of feral, stray and abandoned cats on the island country of Curacao.  The government has not acknowledged or addressed this issue that is affecting not only the welfare of the animals, but also the global image of the country itself.  There is a small cat shelter/sanctuary run by a Dutch woman, Mariette Hanssen.  Mariette has spent the past 4 years trapping, rehabilitating, spaying, neutering and adopting out the unwanted and abandoned cats in Curacao.  She has provided care and shelter for hundreds of cats, improving the welfare of animals and the environment of local communities.  Her small organization has survived off of donations from worldwide supporters, partnerships with spay/neuter organizations and her own personal funds.  Her sanctuary, Cats of Curacao, is located on a parcel of land that has been offered to her rent-free for the past 4 years.  However, she is being forced to vacate the property along with the 200+ cats that she currently cares for.  The government of Curacao has donated land and funds to organizations that help improve the welfare of its citizens and the environment of its communities.  It is now time for the government of Curacao to recognize the important work that Mariette Hanssen is doing and provide land and support to allow her to continue the mission of eliminating the problem of feline overpopulation as well as educating the local communities on the importance of animal welfare.  Find out about her vitally important work at http://www.catsofcuracao.com/cat-sanctuary.html
