Movement Be wants a stop sign and safe cross walk on 68th and El Cajon Blvd.
The Issue
As members of the Movement Be Center, a youth nonprofit located at the intersection of 68th and El Cajon Blvd in San Diego, CA, we are deeply concerned about the safety of our community. The lack of a stop sign and safe crosswalk at this location has created an unsafe environment for both our young members and local school students who use this route daily.
The situation is so dire that people have been hurt crossing the street. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), pedestrian fatalities in urban areas like ours have increased by 69% over the last ten years. This statistic is not just a number; it represents real lives that are being put at risk every day.
We believe that implementing a stop sign and safe crosswalk can significantly reduce these risks. Studies show that pedestrian-vehicle accidents decrease by more than 40% when appropriate traffic control measures are put in place (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety).
We urge local authorities to prioritize our children's safety over convenience. Let's make sure everyone can safely navigate through our neighborhood streets without fear or harm.
Please join us in calling on San Diego city officials and writing to Councilman Sean Elo Rivera to implement a stop sign and safe crosswalk at 68th and El Cajon Blvd immediately. Sign this petition today!
