The Issue

In the heart of our community, the Siksika Nation Fair holds significant cultural and traditional importance. For years, it brought immense joy and a spirit of unity as it filled our August days with celebration and cultural expression. However, the decision to move this vibrant fair to June has brought unforeseen challenges, particularly due to the weather.

June, while undeniably picturesque, is not the most feasible time for the outdoor activities that are foundational to our fair experience. The prevailing rains of this month threaten the safety and enjoyment of camping, outdoor breakfasts, vendor exhibitions, and sporting events. Moreover, the powwow – the heart of our celebration, becomes difficult to appreciate amidst unpredictable weather.

August, on the other hand, offers a more stable climate, ensuring that these events can be held comfortably and safely, allowing participants and attendees to fully engage in and enjoy the festivities. Historically, August has been a time when the community comes together to celebrate, unencumbered by weather concerns, allowing us to honor our traditions and create lasting memories.

The community thrives when we gather under optimal conditions, fostering an environment where cultural exchange and camaraderie flourish. By moving the fair back to August, we allow our community to prosper in hosting an inclusive and successful event that honors our heritage and supports our local vendors and talents.

Please sign this petition to respectfully request the event organizers and decision-makers to consider the needs and preferences of the community and return the Siksika Nation Fair to its rightful month of August. Together, we can ensure the preservation and enjoyment of our cherished traditions.
