Vandalia Community High School is hosting their annual homecoming dance on Friday, September 20th, 2024. Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue. However, the principal states that Vandalia Community High School will also have school with no early dismissal, the homecoming parade, the homecoming football game, and the dance all on the same night. The reasoning for this isn’t what you’d expect. He states he wants it to be less formal and that people spend too much money and time on dresses, hair, nails, and going out to eat. If the day is moved to Saturday, then numerous issues will be solved. A student took the liberty of even doing a poll and the majority of students voted for homecoming to be hosted on Saturday. After talking to numerous students as well, many have mentioned skipping the entirety of September 20th or even just half so they could still cheer, play at the game, etc. Moving it to the 21st would also ensure that people will not be skipping school and damaging their own academics for dances. Imagine you are a senior and can’t have a pretty dress or pretty pictures or going to dinner with your date for your last ever homecoming. Wouldn’t that upset you? If so, please sign this petition so hopefully the Vandalia student body can make Mr. Protz see just how important homecoming is.
