Move the Fremont Heritage Museum to the Old Fremont Library Building

Move the Fremont Heritage Museum to the Old Fremont Library Building
The Issue
Please sign the Petition and Attend the Town of Fremont Board Meeting on June 17, at 6:00 PM at the Fremont Town Hall!! Thank You
To Those Concerned:
The Fremont Heritage Museum was formed in the year 2000 in the old First Federal Savings and Loan Building that was owned by Heritage Bank. Heritage Bank was kind enough to help set the museum up with some seed money to get the museum off the
ground. Heritage Bank merged with Southern Bank in 2010 and gave us the Heritage Museum and property. With the great support of the community lending/donating artifacts and historical items the last 25 years, we have outgrown our space. We can no longer receive items
for the museum. We are having to turn down historical items from Fremont and Northern Wayne County. In 2022 we thought we had a solution to the space problem when the building next to the museum was donated to us. We got an appraisal to repair the building and hopefully turn it into an annex to the museum at a cost of $200,000. When the contractor got into tearing out some of the building
the unexpected happened and the roof started to separate. There was nothing else to do but gut the building. We had to hire an Engineer to come up with a site plan and give us an estimate on bringing the building up to code. We found out it was going to cost over half a million dollars ($500,000). We found it to be too costly at the time.
This brings us up to the point for which we are writing to you. It has come to our attention that the old Fremont Community Building might be for sale. This building has housed a school, a Masonic lodge, a home, Community Building, Wayne County Health Department and Wayne County Library. This property would make a nice museum. It has the space to house a large number of artifacts, an area to hold talks concerning history plus it has a large lot to display old historical equipment. The museum board has voted to ask the
Town of Fremont to allow us to acquire this property from them. The town has set precedence in the past of selling town property to non-profits (example Fremont Rescue and EMS) for $1.00 with the property reverting back to the Town of Fremont if the Heritage Museum disbanded. The board feels that this could benefit the town in many ways. It would give better visibility to out of town travelers and visitors and also help bring revenue and generate business within the town. The museum can increase our sense of well-being, help us feel proud of where we have come from, can inspire, challenge and stimulate us and make us feel healthier.
Now this is where you as a member, friend, neighbor or just an interested party can help us. The Museum Board needs your help by coming to the Town of Fremont Board Meeting at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, June the 17th. We need you to show up in numbers to talk or just lend support to show that the people the board represents are in favor of moving the museum to the old library building and what it would mean for Fremont, the businesses and Northern Wayne County. If you are physically unable or live out of town and can write a letter to the Museum Board supporting the Board it would be a great help. Please address your letter to the Mayor of Fremont and the letters will be given to him on your behalf.
