Move SeaWorld's orcas to real sanctuaries

Move SeaWorld's orcas to real sanctuaries
The Issue
I believe deeply in animals being able to live freely and living to their fullest. For too long, the intelligent and social orcas at SeaWorld have been confined to small, man-made tanks that lack the space and stimulation these majestic creatures need to thrive. Imagine spending your entire life in a bathtub—this is the reality for orcas in captivity.
Many studies show that orcas in the wild swim over 100 miles a day and dive hundreds of feet deep, natural behaviors that are impossible to replicate in the restrictive conditions of a tank. As a result, captive orcas often experience distress, illness, and premature death. The evidence is overwhelming: in the wild, orcas can live up to 90 years, but in captivity their lifespan is drastically shortened.
Real sanctuaries, in contrast, offer a more spacious and stimulating environment for orcas. Such sanctuaries could be carefully designed to mimic the orca’s natural habitat, where they can swim freely, engage in social behaviors, and enjoy a greater quality of life. These sanctuaries would still provide the necessary veterinary care and support, but without the confines of traditional captivity.
By relocating SeaWorld's orcas to these sanctuaries, we would be taking a huge step towards more humane treatment of these incredible animals. In 2019, Canada passed a landmark bill banning the captivity of whales and dolphins. It’s time for the United States to follow suit and prove that it can be a leader in animal welfare.
We are calling on SeaWorld and relevant authorities to begin the transition process of moving these intelligent creatures to coastal sanctuaries. Each of us can make a difference by raising our voices and demanding change. Join me in this mission to give orcas the real sanctuary they deserve and help them live freely. Please sign this petition and show your support for a more compassionate world.
