Move parking spaces away from intersections in Rolling Hills

The Issue

On Christmas morning, I experienced a harrowing car wreck in the Rolling Hills neighborhood. As I was driving, a lady attempted to pull out from one of the apartment complexes. Due to parked cars obstructing her view, she couldn't see me approaching, and I couldn't see her either. The result was a collision that left my car undrivable, and now I'm burdened with waiting on insurance processes to get it fixed. Although no one was injured, the thought lingers—someone could have been seriously hurt. This accident has heightened my awareness of the danger in our neighborhood's current parking situation.

The issue stems from the parking spaces located a mere few feet away from intersections, entrances, and exits. Vehicles parked so close to these critical points create significant blind spots for both those attempting to pull out of complexes and those driving down the road. This dangerous setup is a risk not only for drivers but for pedestrians as well, especially in an area that is home to families and children.

According to traffic safety studies, visibility is key to reducing accidents. In fact, experts recommend keeping parked cars at least 8-10 feet back from intersections to ensure safe sightlines for all drivers. Moving our parking spaces 8-10 feet back from these critical points in Rolling Hills would align with these safety recommendations and drastically reduce the potential for accidents.

I propose that the Rolling Hills city planners and relevant authorities take immediate action to re-evaluate the positioning of these parking spaces. With minor changes, such as repainting lines and installing clear signage, we can prevent future accidents and protect the lives of our community members.

By signing this petition, you're advocating for a safer Rolling Hills for everyone. Let's work together to create a neighborhood where no one has to endure what I, and others, have faced. Talk to your friends and local decision makers, spread the word. Please sign and make your voice heard.
