Save ethos spa

Save ethos spa
The Issue
Move imperial have decided to close the ethos sports centre spa facilities. They say this is due to increased maintenance costs associated with refurbishing the facilities. They stated that refurbishment costs exceed the decommissioning costs. Which is a poor excuse, given that the spa is a key facility and feature of ethos sports centre. Move Imperial’s executive decisions have been brash, first attempting to close Mary’s pool and now the spa at ethos.
Move Imperial have offered alternative solutions. These include resting beds and chairs, which is a disgrace.
This petition is aimed at raising Move Imperial’s awareness to what students and staff care about and to show that the executive should communicate with gym users before deciding what is best for us.

I have obtained information about the closure under the freedom of information act as follows:
I would like to know the running costs of the current spa and what the cost would be for the future spa
Spa Operating Costs 19/20 - £9,300
Spa Operating Costs 20/21 - £15,300 (projected costs)
Could you please include information on why the Spa is closing down
The College is committed to providing quality sports facilities that serve as many of the community as possible and are sustainable to operate in the long-term. As part of the regular servicing and maintenance it has been discovered that the spa at Ethos cannot continue to be used in its current state without significant upgrade and maintenance work.
Following this, the College has carried out a review of the feasibility of undertaking the required work and it was deemed not sustainable to replace the spa, given the costs of required replacement and maintenance.
The College would like to replace the spa with an alternative facility after it has been decommissioned
How much the renovation costs would be
As advised above investigations into the area have found additional issues with the current substructure of the Spa pool. A revised programme is currently being worked through by the Estates Department as previous estimates are likely to increase.
Reasons for why the renovation is not suitable
Capital costs for like for like replacement exceeded decommissioning costs
Increased operational costs due to changes in Health & Safety legislation
Alternative service option could be delivered at a lower operating cost
Where the funds that could have been used for renovation would be going.
A decision has not yet been taken on this.
