Move Exams Online Due to Civil Unrest in Guyana

Move Exams Online Due to Civil Unrest in Guyana
The Issue
The situation in Guyana has escalated due to the ongoing civil war, leading to unsafe conditions for students who are required to attend exams in person. I am speaking on behalf of many students whose safety is at risk due to the current unrest in our country. It is unreasonable and impractical for us to travel to exam centers while the situation continues to deteriorate.
Despite the severity of the situation, our lectures have refused to review or revise the exam timetable. This has left many of us in a state of distress and fear, as our pleas for considerations have fallen on deaf ears. We are in a position where attending exams could mean putting our lives in danger, an unimaginable situation that should warrant immediate action and empathy from the academic authorities.
Statistics and reports from reputable news sources confirm that the civil unrest in Guyana is not just a minor disturbance but a significant threat to life and security in affected areas. School campuses and roads to exam locations are not exempt from this turmoil, further illustrating our vulnerability if required to travel.
As students, we understand the importance of our education and examinations, but these should not come at the expense of our safety and well-being. Online exams or postponed face-to-face exams until the situation stabilizes are workable alternatives that universities worldwide have adopted under similarly dangerous circumstances.
We urge the academic authorities and examination boards to recognize the gravity of this issue and to prioritize student safety above traditional practices. An immediate review of the exam schedule, with the consideration of holding exams online or delaying them, will demonstrate a commitment to the welfare of students.
Please sign this petition to call for the necessary changes and prevent putting any more lives at risk.
