Mount Sinai: Keep Palantir Spyware Out Of Our Healthcare!
The Issue
Dear Mount Sinai Board of Trustees, Administration and all other concerned parties:
We, the undersigned, are signing this petition to express our outrage that Mount Sinai Hospitals are partnering with Palantir to handle our sensitive patient data as well as staff scheduling, bed placement, and insurance negotiations. We feel strongly that a mercenary corporation, which engages in unconstitutional surveillance, war crimes, and genocide, cannot ever be trusted to handle patient data safely and with integrity.
This is not merely a question of divesting from an unethical company. Partnering with Palantir carries specific and proven risk of:
- Patients' personal data being compromised and handed over to ICE and other government agencies, and even corporations, that should not have access to that data. This puts patients in danger and undermines Mount Sinai's obligations to patient privacy.
- Staffing and insurance decisions being made in the interest of "optimization" rather than quality of care, forcing fewer staff to work harder and faster, and thereby undermining patient outcomes.
- Unproven "AI" technologies making unsafe and unaccountable decisions about our health, regardless of assurances to the contrary.
New York Health and Hospitals has already committed not to renew its contract with Palantir, and we call on Mount Sinai to follow suit in the interest of patient safety, labor concerns and human rights. We trust you with our most private information and our very lives. We ask in return that you maintain that trust by doing the right thing.
We call on Mount Sinai to immediately end all ties with Palantir and any subsidiaries in all areas of operation.
Signed,
