On March 24, 2015 it was disclosed that the Mount Saint Mary College Board of Trustees chose not to renew the contracts of beloved professors Dr. Erin Crockett and Dr. Andrew Weiss. The MSMC faculty’s Promotion & Tenure committee recommended Dr. Crockett for reappointment, but when called upon to vote President Carson Daly chose to abstain.  The board ultimately voted not to renew her contract. Dr. Crockett has been a vocal opponent of many of the new policies the College has adopted in the past year, as well as a voice for many students sharing this dissenting viewpoint.  The termination of Dr. Crockett and Dr. Weiss discourages nonconformity, hampers academic growth and inquiry and only perpetuates a community built upon fear and oppression.

Academic freedom of expression is the crux of any institution of higher education.  If this administration chooses to terminate tenure track professors who have dissenting viewpoints, then they are unworthy of the College motto "Doce Me Veritatem" (Teach Me Truth).
