The Issue

Dear President Holley,

We, the undersigned alums of Mount Holyoke College, were deeply saddened to learn of the decision to eliminate alum email access.

For many of us, our Mount Holyoke email addresses are far more than a forwarding service. They represent an enduring connection to the College, to one another, and to the community that shaped our intellectual and personal growth. The continuity of alum email access has long symbolized the lifelong relationship Mount Holyoke fosters with its graduates. Many of us have maintained our Mount Holyoke email addresses for 20+ years (some of us as our primary email address).

We understand that institutional decisions are often complex and driven by financial, technological, or security considerations. At the same time, we respectfully ask that the College reconsider this decision or explore alternative solutions that would preserve alum access in some form.

Maintaining alum email access strengthens engagement, supports professional networking among graduates, and reinforces the sense of belonging that distinguishes the Mount Holyoke community. We believe this connection remains an important part of the College’s commitment to its alumnae.

Thank you for your time and for your continued dedication to Mount Holyoke College and its community. We would welcome further dialogue on this matter.

Sincerely,
Dana Amsbary ‘09
