Induct Myron Doan into the Morehead State University Athletic Hall of Fame
The Issue
Myron Doan was the head cheerleading coach at Morehead State University from 1979 to 2004. During his tenure as head coach, Myron's teams won an unprecedented 20 national titles at the UCA College National Championships. Myron's impact on his athletes and university still shines through today.
In 1979, Myron volunteered to help transport the MSU cheerelading team to away games. He quickly fell in love with cheerleading and grew close to the athletes. Myron started to attend trainings and learned the in's and out's of the cheerleading world. In 1988, Morehead qualified for UCA Nationals and brought home their first national championship. A short 3 years later in 1991, Myron's team won its second championship which started a straight decade of victories.
During Doan's career, the coed squad captured 14 national championships. An all-girl squad was added in 1994, and they claimed six national championships during his tenure. Myron is one of the winningest cheerleading coaches in the U.S. and drove MSU to have one of the best programs in the country, with students coming from all over the United State to participate.
In 2004, Doan made the decision to retire from MSU, both as a cheerleading coach and the Dean of students. He remained involved with the cheerleading program and made a brief return in 2010 to serve as an interim coach. Doan continued to be a tremendous influence at MSU and actively supported the MSU Foundation with planned gifts to the cheerleading and keyboarding programs.
On June 22, 2014, Myron lost his battle with cancer but the impact he made on the university, his athletes, and colleagues will live on forever. Myron was more than a coach to many, teaching us the values of hard work, persistence, and dedication. To his athletes that traveled so far to be a part of his teams, he was our second father. He always expected the best and would push you to achieve your dreams.
The time has now come for us to support Myron as he supported us throughout the years. Please sign this petition and pass it along to everyone you know! Myron Doan deserves the privilege to be inducted in to the Morehead State Athletic Hall of Fame. He selflessly dedicated is time to the university, students, and athletes in order to make Morehead the best it could be. He is by far the most decorated coach that Morehead will ever see and his impact on athletics is second to none.
