More support from the government for mental health

The Issue

We as a family are setting this petition up to request for more support around mental health and for help in setting up a shelter for mental health sufferers called The Dan Dinning foundation around stockton.

My back story around this matter is due to the passing of my father and my brother.

In 2012 my dad (Paul) passed away from a pulmonary heart oedema which had never been diagnosed until his death, it was my brother Daniel who found My dad. For me who has just given birth 2 weeks after my dad's death was diagnosed with PND, anxiety and depression therefore I recieved councelling, however even though our local gp practice was aware of the situation they didn't reach out to my brother or ask how he was or to enquire if he would like any support.

Fast forward to 2023 on the 5th February was the last night we all seen Daniel and still he was is happy, cheery self, hidden inside him though were these "dark thoughts" and they had returned but stronger than ever. After a few messages to his friends and his friends concerned about the way he was talking police were informed and a search had taken place. Unfortunately my brother couldn't cope anymore and at the age of 36 took his own life on 6th February 2023. Now leaving behind his heartbroken family, partner and his gorgeous son who is 2 year old Had my brother recieved the support maybe he would of still been here today .

Many people may know and have heard about mental health but it has never been as high as a political priority as physical health, this resulting to less money for mental health services. Mental health accounts for 28% of the burden of disease in the UK but mental health services revievef only 13% of NHS funding. Services alone for children and adolescents are particularly overstretched. Around 75% of young people experiencing a mental health problem are forced to wait so long that their condition/s gets worse, turned away/unable yo access any treatment at all.

Health Foundation notes that commitments will mean simply maintaining the status quo which sees a shockingly low 4 in 10 people who need it, receive support.

Services would need an extra 0.7 billion (30% extra) on top of the cash apparently promised just to increase this to 7 in 10. Doctors to this day still identify insufficient funding for mental health services as one of the significant barriers to providing optimal mental health care.

Please if those who agree that MORE support/funding needs to be provided, Mental health needs taking more seriously and would help this petition get enough signatures that hopefully this would he taken to parliament to see them selves that thousands if not millions of people agree more support is needed. Please sign this petition and help this happen and help with setting up this foundation to start in stockton on tees and hopefully go world wide
