A part of the college experience is to try new things and test the waters, and experiment. College students are known to drink and experiment with drugs. As a university we should not shamed students for doing this, but instead give them the resources to be safe while doing it. This is why the URI Public Health Club has created this petition to let student's voices be heard. We believe that URI should provide more shuttle buses and extend the hours of operation to prevent students from driving under the influence. This will save so many lives and encourage students to make safe choices for themselves, as well as for the other lives on the road. We can't prevent the choices of students if they chose to drink or not, but we can help them make sure they get home safely and keep everyone else on the roads safe too. By extending the hours and making more shuttles available, we can change this campus and community for the better. These lessons that these students learn they will carry with them for the rest of their lives, and will hopefully prevent them from drinking and driving in the future.
