Make Montreal vineyards go solar

The Issue

Petition to the Montreal city council, whereas to reduce our city's carbon dioxide emission, we the residents of Montreal call upon the city council implement the installation of solar panels in vineyards.

Carbon emission is a rising problem in our world and we need to find new ways to tackle this issue and save our planet from global warming. In 2015, five vineyards in Finger Lakes, New York, installed solar panels which resulted in 460 tons of carbon dioxide emissions reduced each year. This is the equivalent of removing 35 million vehicle miles or planting about 200 acres of trees, which puts into perspective how integrating this plan into other cities could be very beneficial to our fight against climate change.

I am petitioning that the Montreal City Council implement a similar project with 5 vineyards in our city. This would not only be incredibly environmentally beneficial, but also extremely financially beneficial for the owners of the vineyards. This change would help bring us to fulfill our goal of reaching a more sustainable future.

Solar power, in the right conditions, can cover up to 100 percent of the electricity needs of the location it is installed in. I suggest that we install roughly 350 solar panels in each vineyard with the goal of decreasing our carbon dioxide emissions by at least 500 tonnes per year.
