Vote AGAINST Question B - Support our police and their families
The Issue
VOTE “AGAINST” QUESTION B - SUPPORT OUR POLICE AND THEIR FAMILIES AND THEIR RIGHT TO DISCUSS ISSUES AFFECTING THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES
We are police officers but more importantly we are parents of special needs children, we are the care takers of ill parents, we are single parents, and we are sometimes the sole childcare providers for our children. We are no different than any other concerned parent and we need your help.
In 2011 the county Council in Montgomery County voted to eliminate a law that allows us to discuss the effect of certain decisions by management that affects our careers and most importantly our families. With the elimination of this law, our families are at risk. Management can transfer us and add to our already long commutes causing less time with our family, or they may change our schedules without notice, forcing us to find last minute child care.
We took this job knowing that we would work weekends and holidays and have to sacrifice time with our families, but we didn’t know we would be subjected to the possibility of random short notice schedule changes, arbitrary transfers, and lack of fairness or transparency in the promotion process, among other things.
Being a police officer we are asked to put our lives on the line every day and we accept that risk. In exchange for that we should at least be able to discuss certain decisions which affect not only our life, but the lives of our families.
If you want to support police officers and their families, please SIGN THIS PETITION and send it to others who understand these incredibly important issues. Tell politicians to support police families and allow employees to have a say in how decisions affect their families. This is a basic right that everyone should have and no one should have to worry about the health of their family because they were unable to discuss how management’s decisions affect their families.
