Amend MCSL Restrictive Summer Policies

The Issue

MCSL Board,

Last week it was announced during the MCSL Team Rep special meeting on May 6 that the MCSL Board decided that all existing COVID practice and meet protocols will remain in place for the entire summer swim season regardless of anticipated easing of county restrictions. This is very disappointing. Our MCSL member teams should be allowed to vote on this important issue as it is not one the MCSL Board can make unilaterally without member team input.

In fact, MCSL clearly states on its website . . .The policies will not be changed unless MoCo swim team programs amend the restrictions under which we must operate.

COVID infection numbers are declining, vaccination rates are rising, the season is entirely outdoors and COVID doesn't transmit in chlorinated pools. As the county eases restrictions, our league absolutely should follow suit. Having two different sets of COVID restrictions between the county and our league will only lead to confusion, frustration and lack of compliance. It will be a nightmare to manage.

Most people would expect things to open up for summer swim as the county eases restrictions. We already live in one of the most locked down counties in the country. The few who are uncomfortable having their child(ren) swim this summer due to safety concerns do not need to participate. The MCSL should immediately amend the COVID meet and practice protocols to align with any new county guidelines that are issued in regards to COVID restrictions.

Please sign to support reducing/eliminating strict MSCL Policies - even as MoCo opens up and becomes less restrictive in the coming weeks. Parents want to see their children swim!
