Montgomery County Against Vaccine Passports

The Issue

Please sign this petition against the Montgomery County Council passing a proposal to mandate vaccine passports! This proposal was submitted by County Executive Marc Elrich to be reviewed and voted on by the council.

Please also take a few minutes to email, call and/or mail a letter to the county executive and the council. Please  click here to print a form letter you can sign and email/mail to the council and the county executive or you can write your own letter to send. Contact information is at bottom of petition.

The council chose not to vote on the proposal on the 25th, saying they don’t support it at this time but the county executive is still pushing for it. See an email below many country residents received  this week:

“Dear Resident:
I believe that proof of vaccination legislation would be helpful, and I am glad that the Council has been holding hearings and getting community feedback on this legislation. I listened to the concerns and criticisms raised and while I was aware of those issues already, I did consider those points. However, I don't accept the premise that implementing this legislation won't help us reduce our transmission rates.
DC began implementing their proof of vaccination policy last month with little issues or disturbances.
The Council has stated that they are not going to vote on this at this time, and I understand that it is a difficult vote for the Council, but I do hope they show the same understanding as our neighbors in the District to help us get through this current situation.
Sincerely,
Marc Elrich
County Executive

This “proposal, which applies to restaurants, movie theaters, entertainment venues and other similar establishments. Customers and visitors would have to show proof that they were vaccinated.
It exempts those with credible medical or religious reasons, along with many businesses and entities with essential services: grocery stores, medical facilities, government buildings, and numerous others. Houses of worship are also exempt.

If enacted, residents would be required to show proof of at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine by Jan. 21. They can either show their vaccine card, a copy of it or an electronic record of their vaccine history.
By Feb. 15, customers 12 and older would need to show they received one dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine or two doses of a two-dose vaccine. By March 1, patrons five years and one month old and older must provide proof they’ve received two doses of a vaccine.”

Objecting Facts:

1. Vaxxed people are getting COVID
2. Vaxxed people are spreading COVID
3. This new variant is mild according to all the "experts"
4. How many boosters will they require us to give our children so they can go to a restaurant, gym, movies, etc... for something as mild as a cold at the moment?
5. What will passports gain us? They will NOT reduce the spread.
6. Will unvaxxed people lose their jobs if they work in these locations (restaurants, bars, etc)? I'm guessing so.
7. This will only harm small businesses in MoCo - haven't they been harmed enough by the ridiculous policies of Elrich and his people?

Emails and letters to state / county offices hold a lot of weight.

Please consider taking time mail a letter, call, even if it is a form letter with your signature. This will show that an overwhelming number of people in the county have a strong opposition to this “proof of vax” proposal and hopefully dissuade a passing of any kind of legislation.
