Introduction of Additional Services for Students using Peninsula-Clayton Shuttle Service

The issue

Thank you for viewing our petition.

The Inter-Campus Shuttle Service afforded by Monash University has been and continues to be met with great appreciation by students who undertake essential travel between universities.

However, we note that there has been a growing disjunct between the timing of shuttle buses servicing the Peninsula-Campus route and the number of students having to attend between these campuses outside the current ambit of those services. The result has been the disenfranchisement of students unable to attend immovable classes located at Clayton Campus commencing and concluding at 8 am and 6 pm respectively. For the second semester in a row, Monash University has failed to address the concerns of students who have contacted the University expressing their distress regarding the issue.

This predicament has been exacerbated by the failure of the State Government to expand the 887 bus service (replacing, in part, the helpful 'PenBus' service) to include a route between Monash Peninsula and Monash Clayton, as well as the increasingly inaccessible parking at Clayton due to inadequate controls on qualifications for parking permits and the planning, facilitation and management of burgeoning student enrollments.

In order to improve access to education for students from the Mornington Peninsula and Frankston areas from semester two, 2016, and beyond, it is proposed that the University consider the introduction of at least two additional inter-campus Peninsula-Clayton shuttle services allowing students to attend commitments commencing 8 am at Clayton and depart the campus after commitments concluding 6 pm.

While an extensive number of Clayton-Caulfield services were introduced recently to address the burgeoning number of students travelling between these campuses, no such action has been taken, sans the introduction of one extra bus, to alleviate the sizable and growing number of students who amass to board:

* the 7.50 am shuttle from Peninsula Campus to Clayton Campus

* the 5.25 pm bus back from Clayton Campus to Peninsula Campus. and the relief that would be afforded

The introduction of the above proposed inter-campus Peninsula-Clayton shuttle services will be of benefit to all users of the Inter-Campus Shuttle program by alleviating these existing strained services.

We, the undersigned, kindly ask Monash University to meet the needs of a growing student populace without recourse to non-committal or incomplete communication as appears to have previously been the experience of affected students.
