This petition calls for Hugh McElvaney's immediate dismissal from Monaghan County Council

This petition calls for Hugh McElvaney's immediate dismissal from Monaghan County Council
The Issue
On December 7th 2015, McElvaney appeared in an RTÉ documentary abusing his position as a public representative for his own personal gain. McElvaney was elected onto Monaghan County Council for the ninth successive time last year, but he came to the attention of the RTÉ Investigations Unit because of major gaps in his declaration of interests, including an undeclared property portfolio and a directorship of a consultancy firm. As part of the programme, RTÉ reporters established a fake wind farm company and approached a number of councillors. Councillor McElvaney was recorded discussing a prospective payment with an undercover journalist during their conversation. This investigation performed an important public service for the people of Monaghan and the people of Ireland in revealing the conflicts of interest that Councillor McElvaney was willing to entertain in the course of his public duties. Corruption in democracy is democracy denied, therefore consider this petition a message from the people of Monaghan to tell our public representatives that corruption, apathy and ineptitude will no longer be tolerated.
