R521 road  between Dendron and Polokwane AADT has dramatically increased over the years. Different road users use it daily including Heavy Trucks and Semi-Trailer Trucks. The accidents costs, vehicle operating costs (VOC) and value of time (VOT) have been rising on that road. Improvements are long over due since the worsening status quo.

The R521 strategically connects to the N1 and the border. So it is important to the Economy of the country (as seen via the increase in heavy and semi trailer trucks transporting goods that use the road) and it has benefits to the car users, taxi industry and buses that go through that road.

Although this is technically a regional route, different spheres of government are responsible for the road, we need it to be improved, either making it similar design of R101 (since two lanes per direction will be costly), or some form of improvements above and beyond routine maintenance. The improvements can be done in phases, but Dendron and Polokwane section needs to be improved as in yesterday. 

Lastly...Are there plans beyond routine maintenance for R521 for the MTEF period?
