The source code of Minecraft is an irreplaceable tool needed  for the creation of the various mod that helps and always helped with the spread and the development of the game itself.
The Minecraft source code is released by the Ocean-Labs developer (http://mcp.ocean-labs.de) through MCP, the famous program that actually works as a backbone for Forge.
The source release will only speed up the mods development
