Modify the Dress Code at London ISD to Include Comfortable Learning Attire
The Issue
Prior to the start of the academic year, many students of London ISD, including myself, have invested hundreds of dollars in comfortable attire such as leggings and sweatpants. We understood these clothing items to not only be popular, but also optimal for a focused and comfort-oriented learning environment. However, the current dress code at London ISD prevents us from wearing these clothes. This restrictive dress code, inadvertently, does not enhance, but hampers our ability to learn comfortably and actively.
Contrary to the prevalent belief, dress codes do not necessarily improve a students' performance. In fact, the National Education Association states that an emphasis on the appearance of students can lead to undue stress and anxiety, potentially affecting their academic performance (source: National Education Association). Moreover, a study published in the Journal of Education and Learning showcased that when students are comfortable in the clothing they wear, they are more likely to participate actively in class.
Thus, we are seeking to modify the dress code at London ISD. Our proposed change does not negate the need for a dress code but asks for the inclusion of clothing items like leggings and sweatpants, which many students find comfortable and conducive to a positive learning experience. Please join us in supporting this cause that directly impacts the academic comfort and subsequent performance of students at London ISD. Sign the petition.
